Forza Horizon 3 PC requirements
Console gamers have long benefited from better racing games than their PC cousins. The controller and the lounge set-up of consoles, means it’s always been naturally suited for enjoying racing games, either on your own or with a few mates fighting over a controller.
Plus, until recently the PC was bereft of any decent pick-up-and-play, arcade-style racers. Yes, we have Project Cars, and yes it’s awesome, but it’s a little hardcore for some people who just want to blast around a stunning track and beat their buddy.
With Forza Horizon 3 coming to Windows 10, through Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative, this looks like it’s set to change and means that finally PC gamers will be able to enjoy – dare I say – more casual racing on their rigs.
But what are the PC specs needed to play Forza Horizon 3? How will your last generation video card handle it and what sort of memory and CPU should you be packing to enjoy it in all its glory?
Well, let’s take a look at Forza Horizon 3 specs with this build.
First off, let me say the published requirements are pretty high, and are a little confusing.
Microsoft says in order to enjoy it at 1920×1080 screen resolution (not THAT taxing a resolution for most rigs these days) you will need an i7 3820 and 12GB of RAM.
The i7 3820 CPU came out in 2012 and is clocked at 3.6GHz as standard.
However, a much cheaper (and newer) option exists.
If you want to save money and use the latest chip you should opt for an i5 6600K CPU in your own Forza Horizon 3 PC.
This chip benefits from the latest Skylake architecture and has an out-of-the-box speed of 3.5GHz, that boosts to 3.9GHz when needed.
Plus, as a ‘K’ processor it can be overclocked, so should you find yourself in the unlikely event that the i5 6600K is struggling, it’s fairly easy to boost the speed.
While the i7 3820 is an odd minimum recommendation, I would expect chips released in the last 2-3 years to handle this game, provided they operate in the 3.5GHz – 3.7GHz range.
