We’ve all been there, you attend business out of the office, forget your smartphone or tablet charger and are left clinging desperately to your device’s last few drips of power, dreading the moment your battery indicator dips below 10%. Well, worry no longer as APC has a solution with its simple and stylish-looking M5 mobile power pack.
Available in two colors – black and white – the M5 contains enough power when fully charged to recharge your smartphone twice, and can put around half a charge back into your tablet – which tend to use larger, more power hungry batteries.
The M5 is portable enough to slip inside a jacket pocket.
It features a dual output, with a 2.4 amp USB port that’s ideally suited to charging your tablet, and a 1 amp connection that’s best used for smartphones.
Better yet, you can use both ports at the same time, allowing you to charge two devices on the go – should you find yourself in this position.
The power bank produces 5000mAh of power, and with only one device connected will power it up quickly.
If you’re looking to charge up two devices obviously it’s goingt to take slightly longer as the stored power in the M5’s L-ion battery is shared.
Look and feel
The M5 is lightweight and compact, clocking in at a length of 10.5cm, width of 6.5cm and thickness of 1.3 cm.
It’s shorter than an iPhone SE, but around 1.5 times thicker.
The front and back of the device feature a shiny gloss surface that’s going to attract fingerprints, while the edges of the unit are a matte black plastic.
As well as the APC logo on the front of the unit there’s a battery indicator that lights up when you touch the device’s green power button, located on its right side.
Like the iPhone, the M5 comes without any sort of cover, so anyone interested should invest in their own.
While sturdy the device is not likely to survive being dropped on a hard surface.
The M5 can be quickly charged using the included micro USB cable, plugged into a standard USB charger or directly into a computer or laptop.
Once it’s charged it will retain power for months on end, so if you go on a lot of business trips it’s almost worth buying an extra one to put in your glove compartment.
The M5 from APC is available now and costs around $20.
