If you’re looking for a premium gaming chair to help take the weight off during a heavy gaming session, you should take a look at the AKRacing Premium V2. It’s well made, looks fantastic and also very comfortable – as if I need another excuse to keep gaming. Let’s take a closer look at the chair, kindly provided by AKRacing.
Gaming is serious business these days, compared to 10 years ago tonnes more people are playing professionally, streaming, or just enjoying a casual session of their favorite shooter, and they’re doing most of their gaming on PCs.
Sure, there’s a bunch of people playing on console but they have couches to sit on.
With so much gaming it was only natural that manufacturers of high-quality gaming chairs like AKRacing would fill the niche.
The Premium V2 echoes all of AKRacing’s design aesthetics, providing gamers with a gaming chair that is ergonomic and functional, and that looks great too.
I was sent a jet black V2 for this post, but the chair is also available in four other color combos; black brown, carbon black, black silver, and a red, white and blue version for all you patriots out there.
The Premium V2 is made from a durable steel frame, and heavy duty materials, especially evident when you see the size of box the chair arrives in.
It’s rated to support anyone up to 150kg, I’m about half that and I found the chair strong, durable but also smooth and effortless to use.
Using the chair is a joy.
The stylish ‘racing wheel’ castors glide across the floor, while the chair rotates and tilts easily.
And as you’d expect the seat is fully adjustable.
Control of your height is via a lever at the rear, right underside of the chair, which is within easy reach while sitting down.
The back rest can be fully tilted from a fully prone sleeping position (if you feel the need to sleep in your gaming chair), to an upright seating position.
This is controlled by a separate lever to the right, back from the arm rest.
The chair can also be tilted back up to 12 degrees in a rocking motion, though this can be locked if you prefer.
The seat’s surface is made from a faux leather material. that is comfortable and easy to clean, and also looks pretty good too.
The seat’s cushioning is made from cold molding foam, which has a high density, which it keeps despite continued use, so you can be sure you’ll always be comfortable, and that you’re buying a premium gaming chair that will last.
Putting the Premium V2 together is a doddle, and should take around 20-30 minutes.
I initially wondered where all of the screws and bolts were, and spent five minutes searching the box for them before noticing the instructions said the screws were pre-mounted, and sure enough they were already installed and ready to go.
You’re provided with two hexagonal screw drivers and pretty clear visual instructions on how to put the chair together.
One tip: If this chair is for an upstairs room, part assemble the chair rather than attempting to carry a fully-assembled unit up flights of stairs – not a good idea, fully assembled this is a heavy, bulky piece of kit.
The Premium V2’s arms arrive attached to the seat of the chair, so once you’ve attached the base, all you need to do is attached the back to the seat.
There’s only four screws required to do this, but it proved to be a little fiddly, as you work to line up the screws with the holes; might be worth enlisting a buddy to help here.
Once assembled you have only to attach the covers that hide the screws, the lumbar support cushion and the neck cushion – both included in the box, but entirely optional – and you’re good to go.
The AKRacing Premium V2 is a quality piece of kit.
As such I’ve awarded it a top performance component award – yes, I know it’s not strictly a component of a PC, but a good chair is definitely an essential element to any battlestation.
Highly recommended. Whether you’re looking for a replacement gaming chair, or to invest in a serious gaming chair for the first time, make sure you check out the Premium V2, as well as the other offerings from AKRacing.
A jet black chair requires a jet black PC, so I’ve paired the Premium V2 with the below build, which is housed in a Dark Base 900 case from be quiet! – you can’t get much darker.
